Stop and see…

in Faith

24 hours after I arrived home I found myself back to the normal hustle and bustle. I’ve got a great deal of important projects that I’m working on, some volunteer projects, my house to clean so it’s nice for the missions team and then, I discover that Rhoda has a split toe nail.

After googling split toe nail I discover that I need to take her to the vet and make the appointment. I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off (because today is not only the end of the month, but the end of the quarter as well…) fielding phone calls, answering emails, changing out bed sheets and watching the clock to make sure that I leave on time to get her to the vet.

I go out and get in the car and realize that there’s something different about my yard. It appears to have been mowed. But I’m in a hurry so I didn’t really investigate any further.

In my head, I’m thinking of the possible scenarios… Adam, the best neighbor. ever. could’ve done it… but he didn’t say anything to me about it and while he has done stuff while I was gone before, we normally talk about those things. My neighbors next door might have, but I doubt it.

When I get home I walk around the yard and see where it was most definitely weed whacked.

Who would’ve done this?

It bothered me that I didn’t know who. It bothered me that I didn’t know why. It bothered me that I didn’t recognize it when I got home.

I headed over to the church to meet this missions team and help with church stuff for the evening and when I got a chance I said to Pastor Man, “Someone did some yard work while I was gone. Do you know anything about it?” Typically, when he’s up to something he gets this grin on his face and he can’t hold back the laughter, but with a straight face he said, “No, I don’t.”

Ok, I said, and went back to laminating my posters.

He walked down the hall after me and asked if I was offended that someone would do that for me and I said, no, that I just wanted to know who to thank. And then said, “so if you do know who was responsible, please tell them that I said thank you.”

There was a long pause and he looked at our intern and said, “Well he didn’t finish. He ran out of string.”

I don’t know if I just wasn’t thinking or if it didn’t register, but it took me a little bit to figure out that our intern (that I had just met 45 minutes earlier) had gone over to work on my yard.

Did you get what I just said?

Someone did something for me and wasn’t looking for anything in exchange.

Now, let me state that people do things for me all the time, but they are people that I know and that I love and that love me. Take Becki and Dale for example. They are forever doing stuff for me. They are great people and Dale is the type of guy who would’ve mowed my yard for me while I was away (if he lived closer, of course).

But here is the summer intern who within 3 days of being in the ‘Noke came over and worked on the yard of a complete stranger.

Amazing, isn’t it?

Was I mortified that someone saw my yard? Yes.

Was I embarrassed at the state of my front porch? Yes.

Do I think that he cares? I’m assuming not since we talked alot tonight about where he wants to go with TV.

And again, as I think about this, tears form in my eyes.

God is good!

Until next time…

A very grateful Heather

Awesome! I *so* knew Pastor Man had something to do with it, but wanted you to find out on your own. It’s truly awesome when people have the right heart and are doing things for others just to show God’s love :)

Wishing I lived closer to you to help too…

Yes. God IS good!
So glad you were able to experience His goodness in this very tangible way.
