…until AnchorMan gets hurt…
…and then it’s hysterical…
Actually, it wasn’t super funny, but it was kinda funny.
The beauty of my church… you know.. the best church, ever. is that you can be yourself. You can have fun. You can be a kid. You can do all that stuff and it’s safe. And you love the people that you’re with… even if you’ve only known them since Friday.
Tonight was no different. We had a big cookout and we played volley ball (note to self… the next time you’re going to play volleyball, don’t wear white capris…they are tan now)…
We played basketball…
The missions team did their nightly devotion and we prayed.
And then?
Game on. Capture the flag. We had the perfect hiding spot. And then I hear… “Heather, come here.”
So I went up to the other team’s base and there was AnchorMan sprawled on top of the picnic table. Chris was looking at his foot. Chris said he needed to go to the ER so I headed into the church to get Pastor Man. He thought I was joking until he asked for my word and I gave it to him.
During that time, Jen got AnchorMan some ice and water. His knee was bleeding pretty bad, too. Pastor Man and I determined that I would take the boys home and he would head to the hospital with AnchorMan.
It’s 4th of July. I can imagine the stories that people tell when they are in the ER on the 4th. Too much to drink…hurt by fireworks… my guess is that he’s the only one in there with a Capture the Flag injury.
Pastor Man called shortly after I dropped the boys off. AnchorMan’s knee was bandaged and the swelling in his foot had gone down, but he was nauseous. They quoted him several hours wait time.
But I have to give it to AnchorMan…he was a real trooper. He laughed the whole time. I jokingly asked, “How are you going to finish my yard?”
And while it’s not funny that he got hurt, despite his pain, we were still laughing together. These people that I’ve only known since Friday.
And that’s just awesome.
So, if you would, say a little prayer for AnchorMan. Even if it is nothing serious, he’s still gonna hurt. But I bet we’ll be remembering this night, and laughing about this night, for years to come.
And remind me to get our flag from off the roof tomorrow… it was an awesome hiding spot!
Until next time…
Heather
