How exactly do these things happen?

July 24th, 2007

I mentioned that football started yesterday… hooray!! We love football season. We just do. I have cute kids who look even cuter in uniforms (and yes, I know that I’m biased. :) )

I am very careful about working things out so that Matthew has something that’s for Matthew and Samara has something for Samara. I go out of my way. Like last year… it would’ve been very easy for me to move Samara up a level in cheerleading so that she would cheer for Matthew’s team. But I didn’t and ran all over God’s green earth making sure everyone was where they needed to be… AND on time.

This year I didn’t ask for them to be together but the way the signups fell this year… they are.

And I have to tell you, I’m not pleased.

The reason being? Matthew ALWAYS gets stuck doing things with Sam or gets left out of doing something that he wants to do…

For example, last year he was tall enough to ride the roller coasters WITH an adult… she was not.

However, being the single mom that braved the amusement parks without help, I had no one to stay with Samara while I rode with him. Hence, he didn’t get to ride.

They go together… pretty much… EVERYWHERE and the poor kid is at that age where he needs SOMETHING to call his own… NOTHING is sacred when you live in a house as the only male.

I’ve determined though that this was God’s way of telling me that while my intentions were the best there was just no way I was going to survive football season with them playing in different groups.

Ok, fine God. You’re right. :)

However, when the cheerleading coach determined that Samara was cheering for Matthew’s team a light bulb went off in her head.

“Hey Heather… since Sam’s cheering for Matthew and my assistant coach went and got knocked up, would you be the assistant coach this year?”

(Keep in mind that the coach, assistant coach and I are all good friends and the former assistant coach is due with her third child about the time the playoffs will occur… so this was all in jest.)

I could’ve said no, I hate cheerleaders and have since I was in highschool because I wasn’t skinny enough or popular enough to make the squad back then. (I was a cheerleader in the 8th grade but that’s only because they didn’t make cuts and they needed a base. When I moved to Virginia and entered the public school system, my short lived cheerleading career was over. Not that I’m bitter or anything… I’m just saying…)

But I said yes. The reality of it is, I have to be there anyway and there’s not enough time for me to drop her off and run errands and there’s no internet that I can steal hook into there… so why not?

So, yes, you’re looking at the anti-cheerleader who is now the assistant cheerleading coach….

It’s funny because I’m also anti-PTA (and it’s not because I don’t support the PTA it’s simply because most all PTAs are a bunch of clique-y women) and ended up on the PTA board last year and am somehow involved this year… although I’m not sure what I’m doing yet.

So, I wonder exactly how this happens… it appears that when I label myself as anti-something I end up getting involved…

Let’s try this… i’m anti-relationship… :)

(This will be the one time that it doesn’t work…..lol)

Until next time…

Heather

Oh no! You’re working on your blog? Ack. Guess I should be warned anyway in case something breaks — just kidding! You do a great job of fixing things yourself.

I was ROFL at this post! I was anti-cheerleading too and my daughter wanted to try it. I ended up helping while the regular coach went on a mission trip for 2 weeks. It was not a pretty sight. Softball player - I am. Cheerleader - I am not. I always wanted to be deep down in my heart, but I wasn’t one of the “cool” girls.

I’m sure you will do absolutely wonderful :) And who knows? She may just make you do the devotionals each night with the girls ;)

Oh yeah — and the click comments are great :) Except they need one for absolutely hilarious or ROFLMBO or something along those lines — especially with your stories :D
