Growing up? at Desperately Seeking Sanity

I am…

Know where I’m supposed to be going tonight?

American Idol Live… you know where I would get to see Blakey Blake and scream like I’m 12?

But I’m not…

and it was my choice…

I’ve just had too much going on to add something else to the mix… including a concert in which I would have to decide who to go (because I can’t take one kid and not the other…), find a sitter, drive two hours to get there, scream, get back and try to function tomorrow.

And I’m okay with my decision… I’m doing the right thing, even though it means missing out on something that I was really looking forward to… in the grand scheme of life, it’s not important…

So want to know what I did with the tickets?

Well, I posted a bulletin on MySpace and asked around to see if there were any takers… I didn’t feel right about asking for money since I won them, but I did ask for an in kind donation for our youth group… since we’re trying to raise money to go to Florida for Set Apart 07 in December.

No takers…

So this morning, I posted them on freecycle. I didn’t want them to go to waste… and I didn’t ask for a donation. (It is freecycle after all….)

And you know what?

I found someone who wanted them AND offered me $50… I told her what I was doing with the money and now we’re both happy…

And yeah, I asked her to take a picture of Blake for me…

Am I slightly bummed that I’m going to miss it?

I’d be lying if I said no…

But it’s outweighed by knowing that I’m doing the right thing… because for so long, I never stopped to think about what was right… I just did what was pleasing to me….

And that makes me feel all growed up….
