So, what else doesn’t work on your car?

in 30 Days of Thanks, Heather's Quirks

30 days Today before church, someone told me that my tail lights weren’t working. She then proceeded to tell me that her husband would look at it after church.

So, when the service was over, he went out and started fiddling with the car. After awhile, another person came over and they were trying to figure out how to check the bulb. I had the bright idea to get the owners’ manual and that was a little help until they determined that it wasn’t the bulb.

I piped in… “Well, I think there’s a fuse blown because my cigarette lighter doesn’t work anymore. I tried to charge my cell phone the other day and it didn’t work.”

They ask me where my fuse box is and I just looked at them. I don’t know where the fuse box is. “Look in the owner’s manual,” I said.

And they did.

I heard them talking about how there were no fuses related to the tail lights and then they looked at me and said, “Heather… what else doesn’t work on your car?”

So I told them.

The service engine soon light goes off and on sporadically.

The emergency brake light is on all the time.

The door ajar light stays on sometimes, even though all the doors are shut…

and I need new windshield wipers…

and that’s all that I know about….

They put everything back where it was supposed to be and told me that they would be in touch and we would get my car fixed.

And I came home.

My car and my house are my nemesis. They are the only things in this world that instantly make me feel stupid, and I hate it. I know I’m not stupid. I look at all the things I’ve done in my life (the good things) and how far I’ve come and what I’ve accomplished and I KNOW that I’m not stupid… but when a car or house problem arises, I melt down… even if it’s something as simple as a tail light.

But, I am thankful for people around me who care enough to make sure that the things that I’m not good at are taken care of; whether that’s to fix something or point me in the direction of a trusted source who will help me.

Until next time…

Heather

This is a great example of what a local body does to help each other…and I know it’s hard to ask. I’m thankful too that you have these guys in your life. We’re having a wacky problem with our van’s power sliding doors right now (they keep opening after I shut them) so I can relate about the melting down part. The power doors are a luxury so it’s hard to complain, but when anything is broken it just makes me scream sometimes! Ah, but I’m going to be even more thankful to our mechanic (who was recommended by a friend at our church!) if he can easily fix the problem.

Ok so I’m dying to know what’s wrong with your car. And isn’t it such a great feeling knowing that there are those around that care and are there to help? Yup it sure is :-)

Tonight at church, they said I’ll probably get a call tomorrow… so we’ll see what’s wrong with it… :D and yes, I love knowing that there are people to help!
