Today, I reminded my children that Lent begins tomorrow.
Their response?
“Cool! Did you know we don’t have school tomorrow?”
I also took the time to remind them that Lent means we give something up… that we sacrifice.
Matthew put a lot of thought into this. Sam did not, but eventually, she came around… er, kinda.
I have decided to give up television and soda.
Oh my goodness how will I make it through the next 40 days?
My children?
Matthew is also giving up television but he added ice cream.
Samara is giving up candy and … get this… her bed. She’s decided that she will be sleeping on the floor for the next 40 days. I started to discourage her from doing this, but really, a bed is a nice thing to have and many people don’t have one of those, so I let her run with it. It should be interesting. Thank goodness she’s 8. She shouldn’t suffer too badly. I’m just wondering where on her floor she will find enough space for her little body.
Tonight, I slipped out to the store and bought the kids a little treat… to indulge… and then we parked ourselves in front of the TV. And I folded laundry… I always do this in front of the tv… but I did want to make sure that all of our laundry was clean so that I didn’t have to worry about folding for the next 40 days…
I’m kidding… (kinda)
So what are you giving up for Lent?
Until next time…
Heather

TV and soda? You are one brave girl. I am contemplating the soda thing (since it is now Wednesday I suppose contemplation should shift into decision). However, since I am about to have a baby, I’m thinking that my daily life will involve sacrifice and discomfort. So I’m also adding additonal prayer, to balance all of the potential misery. Good luck with your efforts.
nicole’s last blog post..I won!
I like the idea of giving up folding laundry for Lent!!! Seriously, I’ve considered several thing — and was careful not to “indulge” this morning. I’ll know by nightfall.
TV and soda. That’s great!! Blessings!
