The Joy Comes With the Morning

April 30th, 2008

Sometimes, no, alot of times, I feel like I don’t do anything right.  Sometimes I am just too hard on myself and at other times it’s because of actions or words of other people.  This week?  I’ve been attacked every which way but Sunday and if I didn’t immidately turn these thoughts over to the Big Man, I’m not sure how I would be right now.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I’ve not been Miss Susie Sunshine all week… just ask my children.  But I’ve not dwelled on it either.  I’ve simply stopped, prayed, and moved on.

But tonight, I needed a little encouragement in the Biblical nature.  I know what my friends tell me.  I know what my loved ones tell me.  But I needed to hear it from a higher source.

I needed to know that at some point in time, this was all going to settle down and life could return to normal…whatever normal is.

In the quiet of my office, with the only light that of my monitors, I began seeking out His encouragement.

It didn’t take me long… as I went to a webpage and these words were put in front of my face…

I’m pressed but not crushed persecuted not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed
I’m blessed beyond the curse for His promise will endure
And His joy’s gonna be my strength

Though the sorrow may last for the night
His joy comes with the morning

And so now, again, I will lay them down for the joy of the Lord.

and go to bed.  Because the morning will come faster.  And bring the joy with it.  Of course, as we all know, my morning and His morning may be two entirely different times… but I’m also praying for His favor on this one…

Until next time…

Mother of the MVP

April 30th, 2008

Although we got spanked big time on Saturday, and our game Monday was washed out, we did better tonight… MUCH better… like 11-3 better.

My girls ROCKED those A’s (although they turned a couple of really good plays…)

So that made me happy.  I was much more together tonight.  I knew what I needed to have.  I had enough copies of everything and my assistant coach was back to keep the score book (PTL!!)

However, the neatest part of the night was when Samara was awarded the Player of the Game award (good for a free pretzel from the mall) for 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and 2 outs.  Rock on Sam!!!

Until next time…

I’m thinking about Atlantic City…

April 30th, 2008

Oh, dear ones… when my mind starts to ponder things, it’s scary.

(Oh and Soliloquy, you can stop reading now, because you won’t “get it” — ha ha)

Tonight an email came through announcing the tour dates for guess who?

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK!!!

And we all know that I should go.  Really, I think I should get a personal invite from their peeps with VIP access for all this promotion I do for them, but I digress.

There are seven locations starting in September and the first?  Montreal.

CANADA.

Now, no offense to you Canucks, because I have many friends that are in the country that lies on our nothern border, but what do you have that we don’t?

Ok, besides cheaper medicine.

And besides no lottery tax.

And a year maternity leave.

These are great perks, really, however, none are perks that would apply to my boys.

But we (I talk as if I’m going with them) go from Montreal to Toronto and then on to East Rutherford, NJ.  What happens in East Rutherford?

From there they will hit Uniondale, NY back to Beantown and then travel to Atlantic City, NJ before heading to Chicago where the schedule ends on October 4th.

Now here’s my question, and I MUST make a decision prior to the 17th of May. (Do you think it’s God’s blessing that my Tax Rebate arrives on the 16th?)

Do I wait and take my chances that they will add a stop somewhere in my general vicinity and it be on a date that I can actually attend OR do I get the tickets now as if these are the only venues they will ever play and take a little road trip with the BFF to Atlantic City in September?  Because it’s on a Saturday night and I checked… the kids are with their dad.

Oh the decisions that plague my every day life.

So what would you do?

Until next time…

The picture of a Mother

April 29th, 2008

Wedding 460

This picture is one of my favorites of my mother.

It’s not digitially enhanced… neither is she.

It’s not fake… neither is she.

It’s a little off…so is she :)

It is filled with smiles… so is she.

It’s filled with happiness…so is she.

But most importantly, it’s filled with love… and so is she.

What happens when i’m feeling generous…

April 29th, 2008

Now, I don’t know if you’re like me but when I hear a friend say, “I’m moving!” I secretly pray hard that whatever weekend they chose to move will be one in which I have a previous engagement that I can’t get out of. Period.

Isn’t that horrible?

It is, isn’t it.

It’s really horrible if you knew how many times my friends and family have moved me.

But, I did somewhat redeem myself this week when I helped Soliloquy (I think I’ve finally learned to spell this right) move for the third time in just a short amount of time.

Um, can we say commitment issues?

Actually, she had this horrible Mother Breach and moved and then didn’t like her new digs, and entered 5,000 giveaways with these horrible sob stories about how she needed help, blah blah blah until some schmuck (read: me) took pity on her and helped her out.

Well, I’m sure it didn’t EXACTLY go down in that manner, but I did help her out.  Basically because… well, how do I put this nicely?

She’s got a big mouth.

And big mouths are good when there are kind words coming from said big mouths.

So she’s moved up and now she’s in her big girl panties on her own domain and hosting and talking all this good stuff about me which would probably swell my head if it weren’t bogged down with all this cold medicine that I’m taking (which, for the record, doesn’t seem to be helping any.)

So take a minute and go say hi to Soliloquy…as she says goodbye to wordpress.com :D

And bookmark her, subscribe to her feed, whatever.

She’s not moving again….

well, at least *i’m* not moving her again… :D  I don’t care how many times she calls me A. MAZ. ING. or bribes me with dinner and drinks at Spondivits!

Totally kidding on both accounts.  I’m a sucker for kind words…and food… and free alcohol :D

Until next time…

Jacobson Residence

Me: Samara, I’m moving your bedtime back 30 minutes.

Samara: Why?

Me: Because on at least 3 occasions in the last week you’ve fallen alseep after school which, to me, means you’re not getting enough sleep at night.

Samara: I DID NOT!

Me: Yes, you did.

Samara: I think you’re wrong.

Me: Oh yeah? Well, look here…

and then I proceed to show her

First the $25 super certificate…

Congrats to Becki who is the winner of the $25 Super Certificate from GiftCertificates.com

Go spend some money on yourself… :D

Now… for this big one… :)

Do you know that if I could, I would install a new blog for each and every single one of you?  Some of you just pulled at my heartstings with why you needed this… and oh how I would love for all of you to be able to have your own blog on wordpress… :D

But sadly, there can only be one.

And it’s Boomeyers:D

However, because there was such a demand, I went ahead and put together some packages in case some of you would like to actually get a Wordpress blog…. and made it affordable.  So that you can have comeplete control but not have to take out a second mortgage or sell a kid.

I’ve listed the various options here, and even partnered with my blogging buddy Jo-Lynne at DCR Design so that we can really get you up and running… :)

So please take a look….and let me know if I can get you up and running… :D

Blog Pick of the Week…Shane Shares

April 28th, 2008

In going through my blog roll and looking at who I wanted to talk about this week, it was obvious… and only because I can’t believe that I’ve never blogged about this before.

Shane Shares is a blog I stumbled upon during the Ultimate Blog Party two years ago.  I continued to read about her family and her life, as well as her ADHD blog while they were living in South Carolina…

And then, one day, I read that they are looking to move… closer to family in West Virginia.

And then… her hubby got a job in Roanoke… right here by me…

and then?  We started emailing and guess what?

Our kids go to the same school.  She moved just a mile away from me.

And then I became her stalker when her kids enrolled in Upward.  Her boys played at my church and I saw her walk in, I knew it was her and I went up and introduced myself.

And she’s so nice and very knowledgeable when it comes to ADHD and Learning Disabilities.

So therefor, Shane from Shane Shares is my blog pick of the week.

Stop by and say hi!

Until next time…

Clean Up in Aisle 10…

April 28th, 2008

In my 11+ years of mothering my children I have made many grocery store trips. I have had my ankles run over by my children who wish to push the cart and SWEAR they won’t hit anything with it.

I’ve shushed them way too many times because they were being too loud in the store or were arguing.

I’ve calmed crying babies.

I’ve said no to all the sugary cereals (ok, well not ALL of them.)

I’ve allowed them to help pick out fruit and showed them where to find the “clearance” foods.

I’ve pretty much done it all…

except…

…causing a store employee to pipe over the loud speaker that some retard spilled something all over the place.

that is, until Friday night.

And the worst part about it?

I was that retard who caused the spill that required a clean up.

Not my children who were fighting over which $2 12-pack of soda to purchase for the week. Not my children who were not happy to even be at the grocery store. Not my children who argued and pushed one another from the time that we set foot through the electric, motion sensored doors…

No. Not them….

Me.

And it was so careless that I’m embarrassed.

Well, not as embarrassed as I would be if someone actually saw me, but still.

When we still, after 5 minutes, had not come to a conclusion on the carbonated beverage of choice, I grabbed a box of Diet Dr. K. After all, if they couldn’t chose, I would chose for them.

But when I did, I knocked over the Big K that was sitting right next to it.

And when it hit the floor?

Spew. Fizz.

I thought about just walking away. It was such a little leak that surely the next person would report it. I mean, no one was there to see that I had caused the spill.

And really? That box looked like it had been through the mill and had been on the shelf for a gazillion years, so no one was going to buy it anyway.

But, the kids were there. And if I EVER found out that they broke something and didn’t report it, I would skin their hides. So I felt it was best to find a store employee and let them know what I had done.

Except I didn’t have to. Samara darted off before I could process the direction in which I wanted to move.

I waited to hear those dreadful words on the loud speaker, but when Samara returned, they still hadn’t proclaimed that some doofus knocked a box of soda over in aisle 10.

Thinking that she got lost and never actually told someone, I asked her, “Did you tell some one?”

“Yes.” She replied.

Still no word from the overhead voices.

“Well, what did you tell them?” Knowing her, she probably just darted up and said there’s a spill and darted off.

Very loudly, with new inhabitants of aisle 10 within earshot she said, “I told them that my mom had a meltdown in aisle 10 and now there’s a huge puddle of the cheap soda all over the floor.”

And at that moment, I heard it.

“Clean up in aisle 10″

Until next time…
