Dork and proud of it….

April 5th, 2008

I find it only fitting to talk about the New Kids on my 500th post. If I spoke of my children or my dog, I would appear normal.

Let me assure you, I am NOT normal.

But if you’re been reading this for any length of time, you knew that already.

Be forewarned, there’s a rabbit trail here for I how I came to my epiphany this morning…..

So, because I’m sitting her in the ABSOLUTE quiet, praying for the skies to open up and dump rain so that I can cancel softball practice so that I can sit here and look at the new kids on YouTube all day relax just a bit today, I head over to YouTube to search for some NKOTB stuff. I’m not exactly sure what I was looking for. I’ve watched most of the videos already, and I saw the Today Show segment and I’ve looked a gazillion a few times to see if they’ve posted tour dates….

Anywho, there was an interview they did for People.com (and goodness, how did I miss this?) but in it, they were asked which songs they were most excited about singing again.

Joey mentions that they were considering opening the show with Tonight.

Now, Tonight was a song that came out later, wasn’t one of my favorites, don’t know all the words, and for the life of me, I couldn’t even remember how the video went.

So I looked it up.

And here is when I had my epiphany.

And why I decided to share it with all of you out there in bloggy land.

After you watch this video (and please watch it… it will prove every point I’m going to make following it…) life will be a whole lot clearer….

Now, don’t you think this is a perfect song to open a reunion concert with?

However, I did come to realize during the 3 minutes and 19 seconds that I was watching that video, they they?

Are dorks.

Seriously… did you see them bouncing all over the stage?  Did you see the weird things they were doing?

But did you also see how much fun they were having doing it?

So, here’s my ephiphany… we, and by we, I mean those of us who are totally in love with the fact that they are coming back, are indeed, dorks.

I mean, I knew that I was a dork, but it extends beyond the bounds of being uber excited about them making a comeback.

Did you see the 30ish women lined up in the plaza yesterday?  I need to tell those of you who are a little embarrassed about telling people that you are excited that you should embrace your dorkiness.

You should be PROUD of your dorkiness.

You are not alone in this.

We are dorks.

For those of you who laugh at us because we are excited about this reunion, go ahead and laugh.  It won’t bother us because we are passionate about it.  We are passionate about the memories that this reunion brings back.  We are able to relive just a small part of our childhood (well, for some of us who ate, drank and slept the new kids, this is a LARGE part of our childhood.)

And yes, we know that we are dorks.  And we are PROUD!

DORKS UNITE!!!!

Anybody with me?

Until next time…

I’ve got chills! Thats perfect for a reunion song. Awesome! I am now one with my dorkiness. You have to remember this was the early 90s and it was so cool then. They are so much more handsome now. So glad to have others to be united in my dorkness with. My husband thinks I’ve lost my mind, and you know what, I don’t care! I’m off to find more NKOTB videos.

Ohh, I just watched the video, and it brought me right back to 1991 (or sometime around that year!)
    Love it!

I am now PUMPED (yes I used the word pumped) to see them perform again. I found some cassette tapes of theirs while redecorating a room recently and listened to them and thought of how much I liked their music. I think the older I get the more I realize I’m a dork and I don’t really care if that’s what someone thinks of me.

How come it was so cool then, and dorky now?! I can’t go for that, they’re still cool! You’re right, they did look like they were having so much fun. I know they’re gonna do dance routines on their tour and I hope the routines are the same as they were back then, ya know? Not today’s stuff, I wanna see it like it was then. Do you still have a denim jacket and a huge New Kids button you can dig out of the attic? I don’t have mine, but I wish I did!
