How much are your comments worth?

Occasionally, I’ll tell you all to leave me comments.  Sometimes I feel like I’m asking you, no begging for you to tell me that I’m wonderful, and it’s not really what I’m looking for, but I know you’re there, I know you’re reading… Google and Feedburner don’t lie.  They don’t.

And sometimes I feel like I’m talking to myself.  And somedays?  It sucks.

But how do you say that without wanting to appear selfish?

And then Beth?  Instead of folding laundry?  She wrote this.

Go read it, comment, and then come right back here.

I’ll wait.

Wasn’t that spot on?  Wasn’t it?

You know it was.  You know, that if you’re a blogger, you feel the exact same way.

I don’t have this blog to make money.  And yes, I pay, albeit not much, to host this blog.  Yes, I have some ads up and you know what?  Since December, I’ve made $25.  I took the kids out for dinner to celebrate.  I appreciated it, but I’m not living or dying by this income.

Just like Beth said, I do this because I love it.

I do this because it makes me happy.

And I’m just as guilty about not commenting when I should and do you know why?  I’m lazy.

I read them in my feedreader and to comment, I have to click to the site.

It’s an extra step.

But if you’re a google reader and FireFox user (and if you’re not, you should be), there’s an extension that you can install to where you don’t have to do that.  The site will open right there, with the comment box and all. And it’s so much easier.

So today?  While you’re reading your blogs, leave a comment.

Because I’m going to.

Until next time…

  1. Am I….. first??

I’m NOT a lurker…. on most blogs. Generally, I’ll comment a few times but if that blogger doesn’t link back to read me and comment back unless their blog is REALLY great, I move on……

I’ve quit reading a few of the MEGA blogs – because they don’t respond to me. Too big, too busy, whatever.

If it’s about building relationships and connecting… it’s a two way street, right?

Meet me half way – I’ll be there.

    AWESOME post, girl.

    Soliloquy’s last blog post..It’s Ov-ah.

  2. I agree with you on the mega-blogs. It IS about building relationships, and I try VERY hard to respond to each and every single comment that I get.

I don’t always, but I try. And I’ve met some GREAT people and found some GREAT blogs just by people leaving comments… 😀

    Like yours… 😀

  3. I use the Firefox reader that you were talking about…I know what you mean about commenting. I lurk for a little while just to get to know the person, then I try my hardest to comment when I get the chance to…maybe not on every post, like I should, but I try!

    Annabelle’s last blog post..Bible Study

  4. I admit I am usually a lurker but I will try to be better at commenting. I just found your blog a couple weeks ago and have enjoyed it! Thanks for the great post about commenting. 🙂

  5. Great post. I totally agree.

Sister Honey Bunch’s last blog post..Mommy Moonwalk: My Armstrong Moment

  6. Thank you for the link to the comments article. That is exactly how I feel. Unfortunately I have a family that well lets just stop there cause otherwise I’ll be rambling on all night long….

Thank you for your post and please know I may not always comment but I do have you listed in my favorites and I will comment as often as I can!

    Brittney’s last blog post..Friday Fill-ins

  7. My Blog is fairly new. Your comment on my NKOTB post was one of the first comments I recieved from a total stranger. It made my whole week. I added you to my feed reader and find your posts pretty funny. Good luck with the new dude, hopefully it works out in your favor.

Becca’s last blog post..For all My Minnesota readers

  8. I read her post and totally agree. I left her a L-O-N-G comment telling her too!

Shane’s last blog post..Summer Camp Guide for Your ADHD Child

  9. I’m so glad there is so much agreement in the blogging world! Great post, Heather.

Beth at I Should Be Folding Laundry’s last blog post..On Leaving Comments

  10. I have read your blog for awhile and now that I have my own blog I realize how much commenting is appreciated. I am trying harder to leave comments. Hopefully it gets easier. I really enjoy your blog.

d’s last blog post..What are you thankful for?

  11. Great post – thanks for the link. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one that craves bloggy attention sometimes.

Alana’s last blog post..Our Little Man

  12. Well, how can I NOT leave a comment to that? You made me giggle. I relate, of course. And apparently, I’m waaaaay behind the times – i use the live bookmarking thing so I have to go to each site to read the posts. It seems like such a big deal to copy and paste that url into the feedreader. lol. Uggg. Click. click twice more. click. click. and some more clicks. See what I mean?

Cathy’s last blog post..“Thank you so much, Mommy.”

  13. I don’t comment on every post I read, but I try to comment at least a couple of times a week on the regular blogs I read – but I also appreciate the comment love, and if I comment a few times and don’t get a response either from a comment back on my blog or an email reply, I don’t usually continue to read that blog. And as for the super blogs – I don’t even bother, because if I am comment #625, then I think that everything has already been said.

    Missy’s last blog post..Farm Party

  14. Cathy… but you don’t have to… tutorial coming on this soon from moi!

Missy… oh i hear ya! do you know… that’s what i HATE!!! and you have to scroll ALL the way down to even post one yourself… 😀

  15. Oh, I so know how you feel. Thanks for linking to Beth’s blog post – it was really good and I had never read her blog before.

I actually had downloaded Better GR but didn’t realize it had this feature. I am loving this and will be commenting a lot, lot more! Also, you get to see if people have changed their theme or added stuff to their sidebar too!

    wheresthebox’s last blog post..Success Sunday

  16. Big lurker here, i’ll admit it. Thanks for the reminder on how important it is to comment. I’ll try to comment more! : )

  17. Greetings from guilty in Google Reader land 😉 Before I used Google Reader I was a lot better with comments. Now like you said the clicking over while trying to quickly reading while chasing a kid (or two) is an extra step. Thank you SO much for telling me about the Firefox extension. I will be looking into it later tonight.

    TheAngelForever’s last blog post..CVS Deals- 4/30 & 5/1

  18. Beth’s post was very eloquent and timely for me since by blog is so new. I decided to start one for me, not the public, but opening my email and not having any comments to moderate can be a little demoralizing. I don’t often comment on some of the “popular” blogs (ditto what Missy said) but on sites I make it a point to go to on a daily basis I do.

    Melanie’s last blog post..Family Time

  19. Hi! Another lurker here. 🙂 I’m a procrastinator & I’m a slacker when it comes to posting, commenting or replying to email! It takes me too long to figure out exactly what I want to say, then reword it so it sounds just right. (I’ve already restarted this comment at least twice!) I’m trying to get over all that.

Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog on a regular basis. You’re funny and real. Keep it up! (and I’ll try to do my part by commenting…)

Holli’s last blog post..Happy Birthday Poppa!

  20. I lurk way too much!
I do like your blog, found it through the Blog-Carnival thing awhile ago and should have left a comment then.
Thanks for the reminder to help pay it forward.

  21. Guilty as charged. I’ll work on it. 🙂

  22. Donna Young says:

I’m a lurker, but I’ll comment today! I’ve been reading you for a while now, and can’t even begin to remember how I found you. I like reading Virginia bloggers – I feel a connection with then, since we share the same home state, although you’re “down South” compared to my living just below DC.

  23. I try to comment.. But it’s been a busy week.
I will definitely be looking into the extension you mentioned.

Darci’s last blog post..Let me off

  24. I’m just catching up on blog reading…. I read Beth’s post, and I whole-heartedly agree. Comments ARE our paycheck. That’s what I look forward to every time I open my e-mail.

Two reasons why I may not comment: 1) I don’t feel like I have anything to add to the conversation, and 2) I have a baby in my arms who is either sleeping or needing my attention. I do most of my blog reading while we’re in the play room together.

That said, I DO try to comment on a large number of the blogs that I read.

Heather’s last blog post..Ten Places I’d Like to Visit, but Have Never Been

  25. I installed the plugin but I am not seeing where I can leave comments without leaving google reader. Oh well, I am usually pretty good at commenting at least a couple times/week when I am feeling chatty. I just found you today so that is my excuse. And see…here I am commenting already! 🙂

Emilys last blog post..A Stroke Of Good Fortune

  26. I’ve been reading for a short while, so I guess it’s time to delurk! You are absolutely hilarious, I love what you have to say. Really , really loved the post on boundaries. I try to comment when I run across a blog that I really like….have to get better at that. 🙂

Jackies last blog post..Who is the mama here?

  27. @Emily – I had to switch to list view instead of expanded view to leave comments within GReader. Maybe there is another way, but that is what worked for me!
