A blonde day…

July 13th, 2008

I mean no disrespect to anyone who is blonde, I really don’t.  And I know not all blonde people are dumb, just like I know that not all people who speak with a slow, strong southern accent are dumb.

But today?

I was out there.

Perhaps it’s lack of sleep.  Perhaps it’s the craziness that surrounds my life right now with just coming home from one trip and getting ready to embark on the other.  Maybe it’s the fact that I new responsibilities with my work and I’m still learning them.  Or maybe it’s because I’m kinda excited about another date?

For whatever reason, I was a total space cadet today.

For example, I went to see Journey to the Center of the Earth tonight (go see it… REALLY… i didn’t think I would like it, but I loved it.) and afterward we went to a Chinese place for dinner.  It was a buffet and as I went up to get my food, I caught a sign that said “Human Pork”.

Or at least that’s what I thought it said.

And I mentioned to someone how I wondered what that was.  To which they looked at me with that look… you know the one.  The one where they are trying to determine what planet you’ve beamed down from?

Yeah, that one.

That’s when I really looked and saw “Hunan Pork” which is not HUMAN pork.  I didn’t eat it because I couldn’t get the HUMAN out of my head and I was distrurbed.

But that was just one of many events today that made me stop and question my intelligence.

The worst though?

We were deciding on where we were going to eat after church.  It’s always an ordeal and today was no different except it was J’s birthday so he got to pick…

The convo went something like this…

J: I want to go to O’Charleys… but do you guys really want to drive all the way across town?

Me: Why do we have to go across town?  There’s one right on 419 by Golds.

S: That’s Ruby Tuesdays.

Me:  Oh.  Well I don’t mind driving across town.  I’ll just go grab my clothes to change into and meet you there, that way I don’t have to go home afterward.

So that’s what we decided to do.  I came home.  Grabed my clothes… in which I forgot shoes and I REALLY didn’t think my 3 inch heels would go with my cute capris…. but I didn’t realize this until I got to the restaurant.

So, I get to the restaurant.  I walked in the door and remember noting the manager’s name on the front as well as the hours and I look for our party.  They aren’t normally hard to spot… there are lots of us and we’re typically loud.

I walk through the restaurant and don’t see them but know that surely they would’ve beat me there.  I decide to call S and then I see a missed call and a voice mail.

Great! I think… they decided to go somewhere else and now I’m here and they’re somewhere else.

So I call her.

S: Where are you?

Me: I’m here.  Where are you?

S: All the way in the back on the right in the non-smoking section.

I walk to the right and look back.

Me: I don’t see you.

S: You have to come back and round the corner.

I walk back and round the corner.

Me: I don’t see you.

S: You can’t see us until you walk up the stairs.

By this point I look like an idiot walking around the restaurant on the phone and I don’t see any stairs nor do I remember this restaurant ever having stairs.  I’ve been here a few times in the past, but not many.

Me: There are no stairs, what are you talking about?

I have now walked to the lobby and am just getting ready to say to her “I am in the lobby come and get me” when I look down at a sign and notice that I am at Ruby Tuesdays!

I burst into laughter which drew attention I can assure you.

Me: Want to know why I can’t find you?

S: Why?

Me:  Because I am at Ruby Tuesdays.

S:  I bet if you come next door to O’Charleys you’ll find us.

Me: Ya think?

So I exited the building, got in my car and then drove to the next parking lot over and found them… in OCharleys… on the right, in the back, around the corner, right after you go up the stairs.

I’ll never live this one down.

Until next time…
