I’m Out 51 cents… and I’m pretty peeved about it…

We’re going to the beach next week.

And at the beach, I wanted to take a family picture.  But you know me… I can’t just do things the simple way.  I have to make them difficult.

I wanted a theme.

Someone suggested shirts with “Thing 1, Thing 2, etc” on them… and then someone sent me a link to an easy store that sold them.

She sold the decals or the shirts already done!

Again.  I can’t do things the easy way.  I chose to save a few bucks (actually it was $5 per shirt… so it was $30) and iron on the decals myself.

I bought the shirts at AC Moore.  Red ones.  $2.99 each!  Score!

Then I misplaced them.

Then the hubs found them.

And then?

Six days before we are to depart for the beach I decide that I should have everyone try on their shirt.  They all fit… except the hubs.

He said it “would do.”

I reminded him that it would be in the Christmas cards on Facebook and asked him again if it was ok.

He decided it wasn’t.

So tonight, we took it back to AC Moore.

Now.  I don’t have the receipt and I’m not overly worried about it.  Simply because I have a red shirt size medium and I need a red shirt size large.

Even exchange, right?

That’s what I thought.  However, the lady at the register stated that she had to return the medium shirt and issue the amount to a store credit.  And because we didn’t have a receipt, she could only give us back the lowest amount they’ve every charged for it.

Say what?

What’s more?  It rang up $2.99 and I said, “that’s what I paid for it.”

She looked at the chick next to her and said, “what’s the lowest these have ever been ticketed?  Weren’t they just 4 for $10?”

“About 4 weeks ago,” the other cashier replied.

She adjusted the number on her system, asked for the hub’s license and all his contact info and then gave us our refund for the red medium shirt.

Then…

She rang up the red large shirt.

I gave her back the refund card she gave me a minute before and sure enough… there wasn’t enough to cover the shirt that costs $2.99.  We had to pay 51 cents.

I told her, quite nicely I might add, that I was very disappointed with the company’s policy and that I realize she didn’t make it, but that I felt it needed to be said.

She replied that because I brought it back, her inventory was now messed up and that’s the reason they did it that way.

I know.  It made no sense.  Especially when the WalMarts and the Targets of the world do the same thing when people exchange things.  They take your information and keep track of what you’re returning without a receipt… OR they run your credit card and can find the transaction.

Shoot.  Kmart and Sears actually put your receipts online.

But no.  Not AC Moore.  And they can’t even be nice about your return.

And just so you know that I’m not totally off the mark… if I weren’t exchanging it for the same thing, I would totally understand the whole we have to give it to you at the lowest possible price….. but the tags were still on and it was obvious that we just needed a new size.

So I’m contacting corporate.  Just to let them know that I’m disappointed.  I shop there often… moreso now that I’ve found Pinterest… but that rubbed me the wrong way.

So tell me…

Am I over reacting over 51 cents?

Until next time…

Comments

  1. I don’t think so. It’s the principle of the matter.

  2. it was only .51 this time – what if had been for more? so i don’t think you are over reacting.
