Family Conversations and Fallen Trees

577609_10151568203125795_1389845807_nI came home to the hubs ready to take down a tree.  After nagging him about being on a ladder and notching it out without anyone here, he said he was just waiting on Thing 1 so it would fall in the right spot.

Me:  I just don’t see how it’s not going to fall on the power line or phone line.

The Hubs:  That’s why I’m waiting on Thing 1.  Have some faith.

Me:  If I lose power or internet, I’m leaving.

The Hubs:  Well I love you too.

Me:  I meant to go to Panera. I have work to do.

I have video of the tree falling…not in the place where it was supposed to and becasue I don’t post certain words on my blog, facebook, etc. I can’t share it, however I did send it to my mother with the caption, “This is why I pay good money for my iPhone… to capture life’s little moments.”

And then after the tree had come down and was chopped up and hauled away…. (we have such hard working boys!)

Thing 3: (In a very concerned, almost mournful voice) It’s going to be so hard to look and not see this tree anymore.

The Hubs:  Why?  (Shocked at the comment) It’s a half dead tree.

Thing 2:  Why not wait until it’s fully dead?  I mean, we don’t knock off old people.

I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

Until next time…

Thursday Thirteen – Things I’d Rather Spend the Money On

thursday-13-button

Thing 2 is getting braces today… in addition to sitting in the waiting room of the orthodontist’s office today for 2.5 hours, I’ll get to write a check for $1,066 and then get to make monthly payments for the next 24 months…

So I found it fitting today to list the top 10 things I’d rather spend my money on if I didn’t have a daughter who needed braces…

1.  a new iMac – top of the line, biggest and best you can buy

2.  a cruise for the whole family (with airfare included because none of the kids have ever flown and they all want to!)

3.  a truck for the hubs

4.  a Samsung Galaxy Note II… because I’m coveting one and the only reason I won’t go for it is because I finally have all my mac items syncing and we’ve become a completely apple family

5.  a diamond ring for me… since we chose not to go into debt for one when we got engaged

6.  tuition for me to go back to school

7.  a new stereo system and speakers in my car… so I can really jam out

8.  a new DVD player and surround sound in the living room

9.  underwriting a women’s retreat like the gIRL gathering

10.  paving the driveway

11.  trip to Disney for the family

12.  a bigger chicken coop

13.  a bedroom makeover – complete with furniture and decorations (although this one would be hard since I would have to give up my antique furniture…)

… how about you?  Have a list of 13?  Link up here. and leave a comment for me!…  I’ll return the comment!

Until next time…

New Addition to the Household

Thursday, I met my Grand Egg for the very first time.

His name is Jeffery.

Isn’t he cute?

IMG_2102

That’s Jeffery in his little bed in the fridge.  That’s where he sleeps.

I have to admit that this is probably one of my favorite projects that Thing 2 has ever had to do.  In addition to carrying Jeffrey for a week (and getting a baby sitter if she’s not able to watch him) she has to do research on how much it costs to raise a baby and interview me about the story of her birth.

Which… if I’m helping her, I might as well write it and put it here… right?

Sure.

The hubs and I have contemplated waking her up every two hours in the middle of the night… you know… to simulate really having a baby…

But let’s be real.

That would require us to get up all throughout the night and this mama?

Loves her sleep.

As does her hubs!

And poor Thing 2… she’s struggling already.

She walked to her friend’s house today and when I went to get a glass of milk this morning, I saw Jeffrey sitting there in his little box…

I promptly called her and told her she needed to come back and get him.

And then told her where to find the mother of the year awards.

Yes.

This is going to be a fun week.

Especially since I found out Friday that Thing 1 is expecting and will bringing home his bundle of joy on Monday!

Until next time…

Happy Thirteenth Birthday, Thing 2

Dear Thing 2,

Wow!  Thirteen years.  I can’t imagine that you’ve been around that long.

You’re old.

Well, maybe not old.  But a TEENAGER.

How did this happen?

It seemed like just yesterday I was bringing you home from the hospital.

Oh good gracious… you weren’t the most beautiful baby.  It didn’t make me not love you any more.  But it took you a little while to grow into your looks.

Not long.

But a little while.

And I can say that.  I’m your Mom.

I have watched you grow into a beautiful young woman.  I am in awe of who you are, admire your confidence, and wish I could face much of what you do.

I worry about you more than any of the others.  Perhaps it’s because I see me in you and don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did.

You’re bold.

You’re brassy.

You’re confident with who you are.

You’ve provided me with so many laughs…. and so many tears…and a few gray hairs.

And you’re absolutely gorgeous.

I pray for you daily, praying that you will love the Lord with your whole heart and choose to follow Him as you continue to spread your wings.  I pray that you’ll listen to some of the trials I faced and realize that you don’t have to walk that path and I pray that I am a positive role model in your life. (Although, I know that I falter more times than I would like to admit.)

You have the world in the palm of your hands and have so much potential.

Have a wonderful birthday and welcome to the teen years.  I know they’ll be “interesting” for both of us.  Let’s work together to make the most of them.

Love you less than God.

Mom
