More ice, less school….

January 17th, 2008

Poor Matthew…

The child spent the day outside… like more time in the cold than if it were 80 and sunny… he just loves to play in the snow.

He was out the door at 9 only to return at 1 for lunch and then out again.

A few times I had to call out to him, or to the neighbors to make sure he wasn’t lying in the snow freezing to death…

He came in just now, soaked to the bone, just as I was looking up the school closings… for tomorrow.

You see, I know the school system well.  Any threat, chance, etc of snow or ice will cause them to prematurely cancel school.  And as I expected, school has already been cancelled for tomorrow.

Now most children would love to hear this.

Samara, along with the other kids that I’m watching are among them.

Matthew, on the other hand, is devastated.

His birthday is tomorrow.  I was going to be adventuresome and make Redskins cupcakes for the occasion.  (And by adventuresome, I mean I was making red velvet cupcakes with yellow icing.. the colors of the Redskins.)  But this was important because this is the last year that he can take cupcakes to school for his birthday without being made fun of.  We had a lengthy conversation about this and I was going to make them, not buy them like I usually do.

He’s pretty bummed.

I offered to make the cupcakes and send them on Tuesday (since we’re out of school on Monday anyway) and while he agreed, he was still devastated.

Poor thing.

So, I’m off to console him… after I leave you with a few more snow pictures from today…

Theme Thursday… Winter

January 17th, 2008

I stumbled across theme thursday this past week over at the Land of KA… and then I saw the theme was winter.

Well, pooh I thought as who wants to see pictures of brown?  That’s not winter…

I was all ready to repost this….

When I woke up to this….

100_1636.JPG

See all that snow??????

100_1639.JPG

The kids couldn’t WAIT to get out in it… and started sledding down the street… only Sam doesn’t weigh enough on that incline…

100_1661.JPG

At first, Rhoda didn’t know what to do… it’s been awhile since we had snow… but now she’s chasing the kids on their sleds… and when I make her come in, she just stares out the windows and whines…

100_1664.JPG

And the best thing about my new camera with the 10x zoom?  I can stand on my DRY porch and get in on the snow action across the street.  They knocked up and and asked the new neighbors if they could sled in their yard… much better action over there!

So there you have it!

Winter!  What I’ve been waiting for!

(Never mind that fact that due to an emergency with a friend, I have her three kids and I can’t go anywhere and we’re low on food for six people…There is good news!  Pizza Hut is still delivering!)

Until next time…

Ugh

August 15th, 2007

The climate change… heat… going from the cold office and in and out of buildings on sales calls and lack of sleep has turned my head into one big head cold… :(

I can’t breathe… i feel like a mac truck is sitting on my head and I just want to crawl in the bed…

it’s time to go and eat… and then i’m going to go back to the hotel and sleep…

luckily i found some decongestants in the business manager’s office…

hopefully that will help just a little…

the only thing worse than getting sick.. is getting sick when you’re away from home…

until next time…

It’s going to be a scorcher….

August 13th, 2007

For me anyway…

they’re used to it…

“They” are the residents of Jackson, Mississippi…

and today? The high is 101…

It’s only going to be 90 here in SW Virginia…

Tomorrow? 102 and Wednesday? 104… ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR DEGREES….

then we dip down to 99 and 97 for the last 2 days of my trip…

The only saving grace is that the building is always set at sub-arctic temperatures, so I can just step out side to warm up when I need to….

I’m off for the week…looking for some grand travel adventures to share with you all… because I know you’ll be waiting with baited breath… (what exactly does that mean, anyway?)

Until next time…

It’s Just Not a True Camping Experience without Rain…

August 6th, 2007

…or so Kevin said…

Sunday morning we woke up to rain… actually, I woke up in the middle of the night when it started… I was wondering if the tent would leak… so I didn’t sleep well…

I was up early and Kevin and I had coffee while the others started to wake up… weather.com said the rain was to start at 10am… we decided East Sparta, OH is in a different time zone…

originally, we were going to make pancakes, but with all of us in the dining tent because of the rain, it was a little difficult to cook and hang out in there… so we decided (when the rain stopped for a bit) that we would make pie irons…

now pie irons are new to me… but you make little pizza pockets and pies in this little contraption over the fire…

100_3715.JPG

Here’s Terry demonstrating… :)

Well… about halfway through the rain started again….

and I have to tell you, Jim and Kevin stepped up to the plate… they kept that fire going… in the rain… so we could all eat… :) (They also kept it going all day… in the rain…)

100_3717.JPG

100_3720.JPG

100_3721.JPG

And oh did it rain….

The genius I am remembered we had ponchos after everyone was soaked… and I pulled them out… then realized they were both youth ponchos… I wore it anyway…

100_3725.JPG

100_3723.JPG

And poor Sam thought she would melt in the rain….

But we ate….

100_3719.JPG

100_3718.JPG

When we were done… Matthew, Brennan and I headed to the Hall of Fame…

and apparently it rained all day there as well…

So they played games and went to the game room…

and purchased a tarp for the Mansion (Becki and Dale’s tent) since it leaked…

and dried clothes from said Mansion….

and Becki made the BEST white chicken chilli I have ever had… ok, so it was the only that I’ve ever had… but I want more… :) Maybe she’ll post the recipe on her blog?

When we got back from the Hall of Fame… the kids were just anxious… wouldn’t you be if you had been cooped up from the rain?

So we sent them off to play…

and boy did they play….

100_3739.JPG

100_3738.JPG

100_3737.JPG

100_3736.JPG

After the played, we cleaned them up and the sun started to come out… it didn’t completely come out but it did stop raining….

And we enjoyed the rest of the evening…

Around 11 we checked weather.com again to see if it was going to rain some more…

It said that we were due for severe storms, including strong winds and hail and we all went to bed not knowing what the night would bring…

I think God knew we had had enough, because not one drop fell during the night…and we were ever so grateful… :)

and if the amount of rain is indicative of the amount of fun you have… then the rain said we had a blast…

Until next time…

Travel adventures…

June 27th, 2007

I’ve always been hesitant to say, outloud, that my travels are uneventful…it’s that whole Murphy’s Law thing… especially since I am a direct decendant.

My travels have been great thus far… and all the trips I’ve made, airports I’ve sat in, etc.

That is until today…

A ginormous storm came through today… I’m talking thunder, lightening, hail… the whole nine yards…

I checked my flight…

CANCELLED!

I kinda started to freak. I have no extra business clothes. I’m tired. I miss my dog.

And I just said to my co-worker that I’ve enjoyed my stay and was kinda bummed that I couldn’t stay longer…. be careful what you say….lol

But then I looked at my new flight. They put me on Delta and routed me through Atlanta.

Did I mention that my children and parents are in Atlanta? The kids that I’ve not seen in almost three weeks…yeah… them.

But darn… the layover is only 45 minutes…

So I go to select my seats… and there are none that I can select…

I might just volunteer to stay… :)

And that would make this the best trip… ever.

So, I said a little prayer that if it was in His will to see my kids tonight then so be it…and if not?

At least I’m getting home an hour earlier than if I caught my flight here…

Life is good…

Until next time…

We have snow….

February 6th, 2007

If you have followed my MySpace blog you’ll know that I’ve been anxiously awaiting snow here in SW Virginia. The kids have too in all honesty.

I gave up on listening to the weather men. I stopped getting excited if I would see a flurry or two. And today when the snow started, I passed it off as nothing….

But it’s something!!!!!

And it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Of course it would snow today. Tomorrow is super busy for me, but I’m not complaining… :) It’s snowing…I’ll make do and LOVE every minute that they are home…. :)

Here are a few pictures…and you can’t do anything but laugh at the last one… :)

PS. Bear with me as I make some adjustments…in my quest for sanity and the perfect blog, we’ll be redoing things a few times… :)
